Banaras- the pre-biblical city of India

Hey people! welcome to a new city on the blog; One of the best cities to visit in Uttar Pradesh. Archaeological excavations have dated Varanasi to be around 800 BCE. Varanasi grew to be an ancient industrial centre famous  for muslins, silk fabrics,  ivory work and sculpture. During the time of Gautam Buddha, Varanasi was a part of Kosala a part of the Mahajanapadas. Buddhism was founded here around 6th century BCE; he also gave his first sermon there. The earliest tourists began arriving in the city in the 16th century. The Kingdom of Benaras was given  official status in 1737.
