Kumbalgarh

This is one of the best cities in Rajasthan to visit with your family in winters. It has a different charm especially if you wish to see the starry sky. Kumbalgarh town is green and it has only one place to visit which is the fort complex of Kumbalagrh.

Kumbalgarh is a fortress high above in the Aravalli hills constructed by Rana Kumbha in the 13th century, earlier it used to be a Maurya fort but later taken over by the Rajputs as a place of refuge in case of attacks. Kumbalgarh is the birthplace of Maharana Pratap who fought the Halidighati battle with Mughal emperor Akbar after which Mewar ascended to the Mughals. It is a world heritage site of UNESCO. It has survived many invasions from the 13th to 16th century after which it was conquered by the Mughals.

Important structures in the fort


Lakhola tank- 

This tank was constructed in the 13th century by Rana Lakha and was used as a step well in the 16th century. There are also two important gates in the fort calleed Hatha Pol and Rama Pol.

There are also two temples in the vicinity of the fort constructed in the same temple,one is a Shiva temple and the other is a Jain temple. There are inscriptions showing the builder of the temple; the Jain temple was constructed by Jain merchants and the Shiva temple by Rana Sanga.
